Saint John, New Brunswick

Hellllloooo Canada!

We've never been to Eastern Canada (only Vancouver and its lovely island).  The folks here are just as nice, and the food/beer is just as good!

We sailed into the port at Saint John about 5am, but we took our time (read: had a really nice breakfast) and got to town just about 11am.  It's also Sunday, so many places weren't going to open until later anyway.

One of the attractions here is the reversing falls - at high tide the water from the bay rushes so hard/fast into the mouth of the river, the direction of the water changes.  And while we would have loved to see that, high tide (which is when that occurs) wasn't going to be until 2pm...we had to be back on the ship at 3:30.  Had we gone, we would have seen the falls, but not the phenomenon.  So....we decided that we'd just drink beer instead.

But for those of you who are interested in the falls, here's what they look like

Are you happy?

We walked to King's park (some good exercise up a hill) and then made our way around the Market Square.  Time for lunch at Saint John Ale House just off the boardwalk.

Glorious day, and the Marina looked lovely at the dock

Interesting sculpture art at the entrance of Market Square

Saint John is the HQ of Moosehead, and the brewery dedicated this statue to the town.

We had some great beer today, got in a nice walk in the sunshine, ate some really good food (especially the maple bacon-wrapped scallops), and chatted up some knowledgeable bartenders.  Great day!

Tomorrow: Halifax!
