Basically A Travel Day

Today we got to sleep in a bit - nothing scheduled except be at the ship about 1pm.  So we lagged about a bit, then went to have a couple of authentic slices of New York Pizza.  They totally met Joe's expectations...and we all know what that would require, right???

We headed to the dock, went through all paperwork, and boarded the ship.  The Marina.  This is the second time we've sailed on this ship - our South Pacific trip back in 2015 was the first.  And we love it.  It's just the right size - 1250 passengers.  But here's the thing.  It's a transatlantic cruise, and there's quite a bit of time at sea.  And the whole trip is 28 days long. Given the ability to take that much time off...we're likely the youngest passengers on board.  Yeah.  There are a lot of folks on oxygen traveling with us.  I don't imagine they'll be dancing in the disco much past 8:30.  Just sayin'.

Not much goes on on a ship the first day.  There are lots of safety instructions, folks exploring the surrounds, opening shows and everyone working to get into the rhythm of the next few weeks.  But we did pass the Statue of Liberty on the way out of the harbor.

I got much better pictures yesterday.  We also sailed out under the Verrazano Bridge.

It's the longest suspension bridge in America, spanning from Staten Island to Brooklyn.  Named for Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Italian renowned for being the first explorer of the Atlantic coast from Florida to New Brunswick.  By the by, when we were in Italy in 2009, we saw Verrazzano's statue in Greve.   Yes, the man is spelled with two Zs, the bridge with only one.  Go figure.

So we're on our way.  We have a sailing day today, so I likely won't post again...until something extraordinary happens - we win some serious cash in Blackjack, we win some serious cash playing Bingo, we have some crazy ass dessert, or another drink like the chocolate martini I had as a nightcap last night.

Yummy!
