Guernsey - Not Just A Cow

So, the Channel Islands - between England and France - were the only part of Britain occupied by Hitler and the Germany army during the war - for about five years!  Today, they are British Crown Dependencies.  Their currency is the Pound (albeit the Guernsey Pound - complete with QEII's pic), they speak the queen's English, they have the typical English shops and brands, their beer is typically English, and the beautiful weather we had today was a total shock to them.  (They were all running about in the sunshine in their shorts, proclaiming summer was upon them - gitchyer tits out, lads!)

We didn't have an excursion (though I was surprised Joe didn't want to explore the WWII history of the island) so we went shopping instead.  Saint Peter Port - the capital of Guernsey (and the surrounding islands) is a shopper's paradise.  Electronics, sunglasses, clothes, you name it...they're happy to sell it to you...and we made quite a haul.

We found a lovely lunch spot and then began our pub crawl.  It turns out that on Untappd (our facebook for beer drinkers app) there is a badge for drinking beer from small countries - Channel Islands included.  We proceeded to search out as many locally brewed beers as we could find.  The beautiful weather served us well, as beer garden patios were in great supply!

We headed back to the ship - full of beer, fish and chips, and shopping bags.  Tomorrow is a sea day as we head toward Bordeaux, and I'll be doing laundry and recovering from today's indulgences.  Cheers!
