When we tell people we're taking a transatlantic cruise and expect 4-6 days at sea, we hear a lot of grousing about how boring that must be. I'm here to tell you that's just not true!
Our typical day at sea on the Marina includes a couple of competitive trivia games, BINGO! (Don't laugh, I won $225 yesterday!), slots and cards in the casino (Okay, now you can laugh because we lost), a lovely nap in the room, a good read while sitting in the forward lounge watching the ocean go by, and happy hour with new friends. Also on board, but stuff we haven't done: art lessons in the Artist's loft, cooking classes, enrichment lectures on a variety of subjects, an afternoon movie in the theater (complete with popcorn), musical revues and shows at night, as well as late night Karaoke in the bar, games on the outdoor courts (mini golf, shuffleboard, croquet, ping pong, and boccie ball), of course there's always something to eat and/or drink, swimming or lounging in the hot tub - weather permitting, a day at the spa, an entire library of books, board games, jigsaw puzzles and DVDs, a specialty coffee bar (think Starbucks with booze), shopping in duty/tax free shops, or a brisk walk around the deck track. (Mind you, the Marina is not one of those huge city ships with 6,000 people aboard...there are fewer than 1250 passengers, but we have sooooo many options.
Obviously the recent snow cut some of those options out, but today the decks are open and deck chairs await...the wind is a bit chilly, but the sun's peaking out and the cabana boys are lonesome.
We're about a day and a half out of Ireland, after which we'll have stops and excursions almost every day for the rest of the trip. So we're taking the opportunity to relax and play the cruise game. And that's one I'll win every day!
